Split

Split is situated in the center of Middle Dalmatia and is one of the biggest towns in Croatia with about 200.000 inhabitants. In spite of its size the city still has a lot of charm and a fascinating calmness. The old town centre is situated within the walls of the Diocletian Palace, which is at UNESCO’s World Heritage list and consists of a myriad of small cobbled streets. There are traces of the town’s impressive history here, from Roman streets and palace gates to medieval chapels and churches. Today, you will find several shops, galleries and restaurants here.

Split has a large choice of sport and culture activities with theater, festivals, concerts and permanent exhibitions. If you would like to spend the afternoon like the locals you could walk on the Split waterfront called Riva and drink coffee in one of the cafés on the waterfront, watch people going by and relax. The Riva is also a popular place for nightlife and discotheques.
In and around Split beaches are mostly pebbled and suitable for sunbathing and relaxing and many of them are very safe for children. In the very center of Split there is a popular sandy beach called Bačvice. Another famous sandy beach is Firula, situated also near the center of the town.
Split has something of everything and is an ideal holiday area for families, sport lovers and young people.
